Cross country run
The Auckland coast-to-coast walk takes 10 miles to get from one coast of New Zealand to the other. I can run that far, so I did on Monday.
Start: the Pacific
Quayside, Auckland CBD, University of Auckland
- Dipping the foot into the waters of the Pacific Ocean at the Viaduct
- Passing boats (this one is from Billings Montana – ??)
- Quay street
- Turning south onto Queen St.
- Albert Park across from U of A
Volcanoes
The Auckland Domain, Mt. Eden and One Tree Hill are the three most noticeable.
- The Auckland Domain lawn bowling club, at the foot of the domain
- Up the paths of the Auckland Domain.
- Macdonald’s meat pie billboard
- Crossing highway 1
- Auckland Grammar School
- Stile on the way up Mt. Eden
- View across Mt Eden’s crater
- Steps down
- The path runs across the Epsom campus of the U of A
- …where Kathy is ready with water!
- Across sports fields
- Western entrance to Cornwall Park
- Between the redwoods and the pohutukawas
- Up to One Tree Hill
- View from the top
End: the Tasman Sea
South to Manukau Bay at Onehunga.
- Jellicoe park
- Mt Mangere across the Manukau harbor (Tasman Sea).
- Pedestrian bridge across the South-western motorway
- Blossoming flax by the motorway
- End of the trail – Tasman Sea at the Manukau harbor, Goodall Street Reserve.
How much I have enjoyed running in NZ! My shoes have reached the end of a long life–duct taped towards the end–and will be laid to rest here.

…with Benjamin’s finger.
