Walk in the Waitakeres
Reservoirs in these low mountains, to the west of Auckland, provide much of the city’s drinking water.
With Ted, we set off for a loop walk from the end of Falls Road.
- Kauris aplenty
- Cascade falls–about as close as it gets without hopping in the water
- View from the Fenceline track
- Many new wooden walkways, almost no mud
- Waitakere reservoir
- …and dam.
- Fern blocking the view of the valley below the dam(!)
- Tramway
- Back at the Falls Rd carpark
Notes on the walk:
- The Cascade waterfall is just off the Auckland City Walk. From the east end…
- Fenceline Track runs up and over a ridge descending to …
- the Waitakere Dam.
- Tramway Track follows one side of the valley below the dam, along the tramway used for construction and a water pipeline. It joins up with
- West Tunnelmouth and Anderson Tracks, crossing the stream, to return.
