Arrival and Mt Hobson
We landed in Auckland at 6 am and took a taxi service to our home on Manapau Street.
It’s the one at the back: an example of “infill housing” where initially generous plots of lands were split up several times. (If you click on the image you will see the animation moving towards the back…) Throughout Auckland little driveways lead behind most houses to other houses. It’s very pleasant and modern. No central heating! There are space heaters and electric mattress pads.

Ted took us shopping. We met with Kathy’s grad school colleague Jan, and then we walked from downtown home, but stopped on the way to climb…
Mt Hobson / Remuera
Volcanic cones are scattered all over Auckland. This and others have sheep grazing their flanks. (Photo another time!) From the top there are fine views of Auckland and of Rangitoto–a volcanic cone / island just off the coast to the East.

OK, that was enough–we fell asleep in the evening by 7:30.
