Whatever happened to the Sonderzug nach Pankow
West German pop star Udo Lindenberg wanted to sing in East Germany, but was refused. In 1983 he wrote “Sonderzug nach Pankow” (to the tune of “Chatanooga Choo-choo”) as an ironic appeal to DDR head Erich Honnecker (referred to as “Erich Honey”).
13 years after unification, the Deutsche Bahn cooperated in mounting an actual Sonderzug nach Pankow.* German lyrics – http://german.about.com/library/blmus_udolind04.htm
